Lewes Nightscape 2014 - 2016 Night photography has always fascinated me. I like the slow, meditative process that eventually reveals details hidden from the naked eye in shadows. I like the blurred movement of tree branches in the wind, glowing, linear stripes from car headlights and surreal star trails, breaking the sky like fireworks.
I like the way a long exposure solidifies the edges of a stationary object, giving a textural boost and otherworldly aesthetic. Most of all I like the calming emptiness. Far removed from the daytime bustle, a cleaner scene appears, an easier composition
Lewes, even in the most built-up areas, is adorned with flint walls and creeping foliage that cast long shadows, shaping the landscape like footprints. I occasionally stop to photograph the scene.
